Christmas is getting closer and Gresham decided to focus his lessons on Christmas, the Advent, and the events going around them. We sent him some material for the children to make some activities in the classroom.
Unfortunately we gave for granted that in a deeply Catholic village like Nkhata Bay, the meaning and symbols of the Advent were well known. It is not the case! Gresham confessed he had a hard time to find the information himself, since there, they just read the Bible and learn parts of it by heart, but they don't spend much time in understanding what is behind it. 
So the children did their best in answering the questions for the moment, but we have already sent more explanatory material.
Il Natale si avvicina e cosí Gresham ha deciso di concentrare le sue lezioni su argomenti quali il Natale, l' Avvento e le tradizioni che li circondano. Dal lato nostro, noi abbiamo spedito del materiale che permettesse ai bambini di pensare e fare qualche esercizio in classe.
Sfortunatamente abbiamo dato per scontato che in un paese profondamente cattolico come Nkhata Bay, il significato ed i simboli del Natale fossero chiari a tutti. In realtà non è così! Gresham ci ha confessato che loro si limitano a leggere e a recitare a memoria la Bibbia, senza a volte comprenderne il significato. I bambini hanno quindi fatto del loro meglio nel rispondere alle domande, ma non sempre con successo.
Abbiamo già mandato loro altro materiale esplicativo.
Alla fine della lezione i bimbi hanno anche cominciato ad allenarsi per la prossima gara di disegno. Il tema sarà 'Il mio Natale'. Come vedete per il momento si sono limitati a rappresentare il cibo e la parte festaiola di questo giorno. Vediamo come evolveranno i loro disegni nel tempo.
