Ramos’s dream has always been to come and study
in Europe. We had promised him that if he finished the primary education we
would have applied for a passport for him. Last June we kept our promise and
Ramos has now a valid passport. Of course his idea of Europe is the same a kid
can have about a fantastic fairy-tale world. We would really like him to come
and visit once to make him experience first hand what Europe is like and decide
whether it is really the place he would like to be in. There is absolutely
nothing in common among the life he is used to and what Europe can offer and
this holds true from a positive but also from a negative perspective. If after
spending some time in Europe, Ramos thinks this is still the place he wants to
be in, we can start looking around for scholarships which may be suitable for
him.
We think we can get through the hassle of bureaucracy
and help him get a valid visa on his passport. However, we have two main
problems to solve:
1) the
application for the visa has to be submitted personally by Ramos plus one adult
in Pretoria (South Africa). Ramos has to stay there for 3-4 days to wait for
the visa and then fly directly to Europe from there. Even if we manage to
arrange for Ramos to be in Pretoria we don’t think he is able to find his way
there, since reality is too different from what he is used to. And we don’t
know anyone in Malawi who would be able to help him out with this. Do you
happen to know anyone in Pretoria (or Johannesburg) who might be willing to
help?;
2) we need
to get new funds to pay for his flight, since we don’t have enough on Marajowi
account at the moment.
We are exploring different possibilities to solve
these two issues, but any idea and/or support is more than welcome.
Il sogno di Ramos é sempre stato quello di venire
a studiare in Europa. Gli avevamo promesso che lo avremmo aiutato ad avere un
passaporto se avesse finito le scuole primarie. Lo scorso giugno abbiamo
mantenuto la nostra promessa ed ora Ramos è in possesso di un passaporto
valido. La sua idea dell’Europa è la stessa che un bambino potrebbe avere del
magico mondo incantato delle fiabe. Ci piacerebbe molto se Ramos riuscisse a
venire a trovarci per vedere con i suoi occhi cosa significa Europa. La vita
qui non ha assolutamente nulla a che fare con quella a cui lui è abituato (in
positivo ed in negativo) e quindi venire qui prima di prendere qualsiasi tipo
di decisione sarebbe essenziale. Se il suo sogno rimanesse quello di studiare
in Europa potremmo provare a cercare delle borse di studio che fanno al caso
suo.
Pensiamo di riuscire a
risolvere tutte le questioni burocratiche per far avere a Ramos un visto
d’ingresso in Europa. Purtroppo però abbiamo due problemi che non sappiamo bene
come risolvere:
1)
La
richiesta del visto di ingresso deve essere fatta personalmente da Ramos (ed un
genitore o chi ne fa le veci) a Pretoria, in Sud Africa. Ramos deve poi
soggiornare lì il tempo necessario per la lavorazione del visto (3-4 giorni) e
quindi volare in Europa direttamente dal Sud Africa. Anche se riusciamo a fare
arrivare Ramos a Pretoria non pensiamo sia in grado di gestire tutto il resto
né tantomeno di muoversi in una città come Pretoria. Non pensiamo neppure che
nessuna delle persone di cui ci fidiamo in Malawi sia in grado di fare ciò.
Conoscete per caso qualcuno a Johannesburg o Pretoria che possa essere in grado
di aiutarci?;
2)
Ci
servono nuovi fondi per poter comprare il biglietto aereo per Ramos perché al
momento non ne abbiamo a sufficienza.
Stiamo valutando diverse ipotesi, ma qualsiasi
idea o suggerimento è benvenuta.
