Unfortunately the diagnosis of the previous doctor Malita visited was wrong. Just yesterday Malita went to a private hospital in Mzuzu, better equipped than the governmental one she was visiting earlier. The anemia they found in her blood is just a consequence of her immunodeficiency, but Malita has HIV.
Apparently the news came as a shock to her mum who anyhow suspected it, but never said anything for superstition. Malita's father passed away because of the same illness and now both Malita and her mum tested positive. At the moment they are still at the hospital and the doctors are busy setting up some counselling for them and also to decide the best approach to take. For now they said that if Malita takes her medicines every day she can still have a good quality of life and hopefully a relatively long one. Her diet will be essential too!
In order to face this new situation we redirected some of the funds to Malita. Hopefully, none of you will complain about that! The costs of the visit, transportation etc so far were approximately 100 euro.
Ci dispiace annunciarvi che la diagnosi fatta per Malita dall'ultimo dottore che l'ha visitata non era corretta. Ieri Malita é andata in un ospedale privato a Mzuzu, una struttura molto meglio attrezzata di quella governativa che ha frequentato fino ad ora. La sua anemia é una conseguenza della sua immunodeficienza; Malita ha l'HIV.
La notizia ha scioccato la mamma, che, peró, segretamente, lo sospettava giá, ma non l'ha mai detto per questioni di superstizione. Il papá di Malita é morto per la stessa malattia. Ora, sia Malita che la mamma sono positive. Si trovano ancora entrambe in ospedale dove i dottori si stanno impegnando per dar loro la migliore assistenza morale, ma anche le migliori cure. Per ora hanno detto che se Malita prende le sue medicine tutti i giorni puó ancora avere una buona qualitá di vita ed una vita relativamente lunga. Ovviamente, anche la sua dieta giornaliera sará essenziale per questo!
Per far fronte a queste spese improvvise, abbiamo riallocato alcuni dei fondi originariamente destinati per altre attivitá. Speriamo che ció non sará un problema per nessuno! I costi della visita, trasporto etc necessari fino ad ora sono di circa 100 euro.
Gresham informed the school of Bandawe. Apparently Malita will be the 3rd pupil to be HIV positive. However, considering her young age, they said she will require more attentions than the other two to be sure that she keeps her medications. They are up to that, but, of course, they want better support from our side...

Gresham ha informato la scuola di Bandawe su questi nuovi sviluppi. Malita sará la terza alunna ad essere sieropositiva. Comunque sará anche la piú piccola e per questo richiederá attenzioni particolari per prendere le medicine tutti i giorni. Loro sono pronti ad aiutarla, ma, ovviamente, vogliono maggiore supporto da noi....
