Selected children for the shelter...Bimbi selezionati per lo shelter

As agreed 30 children have been selected to attend the shelter. Below their names and personal history, as received from Gresham.

Come d'accordo 30 bambini sono stati selezionati per frequentare lo shelter. Qui sotto riportiamo i loro nomi e la loro situazione personale, cosí come ci é stata riferita da Gresham.

1) Natasha Mwenda: (10 years old; standard 6). She is intelligent and always willing to learn more. She stays with both her parents and none of them does anything apart from gardening. As a consequence, they depend completely on small jobs given to them by others. They are seven in their family.

Di conseguenza questa famiglia composta da 7 elementi dipende completamente da piccoli lavori dati loro da altre persone.

2) Grace Mwase: (8 years old; standard 2). She lives only with her mum who supports the complete family of 12 people by selling rice on the road side.

2) Grace Mwase: (8 anni; standard 2). Vive solamente con la mamma che mantiene l'intera famiglia di 12 persone vendendo riso al lato della strada.

3) Felister Gama: (10 years old). She has been attending the shelter since it was opened. She is often attacked by malaria, but is a very bright girl. She lives only with her mum, since her father passed away. Her mother depends on a small garden to feed the four children.

3) Felister Gama: (10 anni). Frequenta lo shelter da quando é stato aperto. E' spesso affetta da malaria, ma é una bimba molto intelligente. Da quando il papá é morto, vive solo con la mamma, che coltiva un pezzetto di terra per sfamare i suoi quattro figli.

4) Mapambo Dingi: (8 years old). She is a very charming little girls and she works hard. She is orphan and she lives with her aunt who, unfortunately, has a Tubercolosis resistant to drugs.

4) Mapambo Dingi: (8 anni). E' una bimba molto dolce che lavora sodo. E' orfana e vive con la zia, ma sfortunatamente questa ha una forma di tubercolosi resistente ai medicinali.

5) Prince Ngwira: (11 years and in standard 6). He is one of the sons of Happy the founder of Chimwemwe Umbrella. He was picked for his trying attitude and his love for arts. He lives with both parents who don't have any stable source of income. The father is just a volunteer in the community, mainly at church, and the mother is just a house wife.

5) Prince Ngwira: (11 anni; standard 6). E' uno dei figli di Happy, il fondatore di Chimwemwe Umbrella. E' stato scelto per il suo impegno ed la sua propensione per l'arte. Vive con entrambi i genitori che non hanno una fonte fissa di guadagno. Suo padre é un volontario nella comunitá in cui vive, specie nella chiesa, e sua madre fa la casalinga.

6) Pilirani Msiska: (12 years;  standard 6). She was attacked by malaria when she was young and her learning ability was disturbed. At times she behaves like she is lunatic.

6) Pilirani Msiska: (12 anni; standard 6). Da piccola un attacco di malaria ha danneggiato le sue capacitá mentali. A volte si comporta in modo lunatico.

7) Chimwemwe Mwenibwibwa: (12 years old; standard 6). She lives with a family of 6 people. Her father passed away when she was 3 years old and they all depend on their mother effort of growing rice on a very small plot. Her mother is HIV positive. Chimwemwe is aspiring to become a banker.

7) Chimwemwe Mwenibwibwa: (12 anni; standard 6). Vive in una famiglia di 6 persone. Suo padre é morto quando lei aveva 3 anni e da allora l'intera famiglia dipende dagli sforzi della mamma di coltivare del riso. La mamma ha l'HIV. Chimwemwe vorrebbe andare a lavorare in una banca.

8) Nolice Thindwa: (8 year old and in standard 3). They are two in their family and she stays with their mother who is HIV+ and depends on wellwishers to earn a living. She is vulnerable to malaria.

8) Nolice Thindwa: (8 anni; standar 3). La sua famiglia é composta da due persone. Lei vive con la mamma che é sieropositiva e dipende completamente dagli altri per guadagnare qualche cosa da vivere. Nolice ha spesso la malaria.

9) Blenda Mhone: it was not possible to establish her exact age, but she must be between 6 and 8. She is in standard 2 and she doesn't know anything about her parents. She is staying with her grandmother who runs a small restruarant just close to the shelter school.

9) Blenda Mhone: non é stato possibile determinare la sua etá esatta, ma deve avere tra i 6 e gli 8 anni. E' in standard 2 e non sa nulla dei suoi genitori. Vive con la nonna che ha un piccolo posto di ristoro vicino allo shelter.

10) Chikumbutso: (10 years; standard 4). She was found to be HIV+ when she was born and she is always on and off. She stays with very old grandparents who can hadly supports her. She is not happy staying with them but she has no choice. At least at the shelter she is some what at peace. She stays with 10 siblings

10) Chikumbutso: (10 anni; standard 4). E' sieropositiva dalla nascita e procede con alti e bassi. Vive con i suoi nonni, molto vecchi, che riescono a malapena a sostentare lei e altri 10 fratelli. Non é contenta di vivere con loro, ma non ha scelta. Allo shelter sembra essere in pace con se stessa.

10) Prisca Kapunda: (born on the 2nd april 2002; standard 2). She is an orphan and she stays with her step mother who is very harsh on her. Her biological mother passed away and her father remarried just before passing away.

10) Prisca Kapunda: (nata il 2 aprile 2002; standard 2). E' orfana e vive con la matrigna che la maltratta. Dopo che la sua madre naturale é morta il padre si é risposato, ma poi é morto anche lui.

12) Claire Thawi (10 years; standard 6). She lives with single mother together with her 3 relatives. She is a hard worker and very much promising. In the class she scores above average in most of the subjects.

13) Ulemu Chanza She is one of Ramos's sisters.  She is a good learner and creative, she often suffers from Malaria and has several headaches.

13) Ulemu Chanza. E' una delle sorelle di Ramos. E' studiosa ed é creativa. E' spesso affetta da malaria e dal mal di testa.

14) Grace Jungu (6 years; standard 3). She is a bright girl who stays only with  her father. However, he is always around and hardly takes care of her and of the other children. She  aspiring to become a lawyer.

14) Grace Jungu: (6 anni, standard 3). E' una bimba intelligente che vive solamente con il papá. Comunque questo non é mai a casa e non si prende cura né di lei né dei suoi fratelli. Da grande vorrebbe fare l'avvocato.

15) Koleta Mwasangwale (8 years; standard 3). She is the daughter of Mrs Mwasangwale the school teacher. She is always with her mother when coming to school so we cannot avoid her. On the other hand, she works as all the children and she is treated the same. She is average.

15) Koleta Mwasangwale (8 years; standard 3). E' la figlia di Mrs Mwasangwale, l'insegnante dello shelter. E' sempre con la mamma e quindi non é stato possibile escluderla. Comunque sembra lavorare sodo e viene trattata come tutti gli altri bambini. E' nella media.

16) Violet Siwake (10 years; standard 6). She iscComing from a family of two, but with  a single mother who is running a small scale business of selling second hand clothes.

16) Violet Siwake (10 anni; standard 6). Viene da una famiglia di solo 2 persone, mantenuta dalla mamma che vende vestiti di seconda mano.

17) Eastery Mhone: (born on 21st February 2003).  She is often attacked by malaria due to her poor living conditions. She has one sibling and stays with mother and father who do nothing.

17) Eastery Mhone: (nata il 21 febbraio 2003).  Ha spesso la malaria a causa della povertá in cui vive. A casa sono in quattro, ma né la mamma né il papá fanno nulla.

18) Memory Banda: (9 years old; standard 5). She stays with her grandmother. Just from her looks she is not that healthy and you can tell that she is malnourished. She is not good at following things, but she is always willing to learn.

18) Memory Blanda: (9 anni; standard 5). Vive con la nonna. Dal suo aspetto si puó giá capire che é cagionevole di salute e malnutrita. Non ha un alto livello di attenzione, ma é molto vogliosa di imparare.

19) Bertha Phiri: (12 years old; standard 6).  The mother who takes care of the household does a small business of selling dry beans and supporting an extended family of 12 people, including cousins.

19) Bertha Phiri: (12 anni; standard 6). La mamma si prende cura della casa e cerca di vendere fagioli secchi per mantenere una famiglia di 12 persone, cugini inclusi.

20) Philip Jiya: (13 years old).  His family is composed of 6 people who stay with both parents. Howevert the father has TB thus leaving the whole care in the hands of a mother who works as a cleaner at the hospital. Phillip is bright and is wishing to become the next president.

Sfortunatamente il padre ha la tubercolosi e quindi l'intera famiglia é nelle mani della mamma che lavora come donna di servizio in un ospedale. Philip é intelligente e vuole diventare il prossimo presidente.

21) Caroline Banda: (9 years old).  She lives with mother and father who are just farmers and to support the whole family of 6 is an uphill task. In class she is a hard worker and has a passion for arts.

21) Caroline Banda: (9 anni). Vive con la mamma e il papá che sono contadini e quindi hanno un compito duro per mantenere l'intera famiglia di 6 persone. In classe é una lavoratrice instancabile e ha una passione per l'arte.

22) Luwisi Masina: (10 years old; standard 6).  He was born in a family of 8 and stays with the grandmother since both parents passed away with AIDS.
22) Luwisi Masina: (10 anni; standard 6). E' nato in una famiglia di 6 persone e vive con i nonni da quando entrambi i genitori sono morti di AIDS.

23) Nelia Mhone: (born on 20th January 2003; standard 4).  She is the third born in a family of 5.  Her mother is the only one working in the family. She is a really hard worker and one of the pupils who is always on time. She is attacked by malaria very often.
23) Nelia Mhone: (nata il 20 gennaio 2003; standard 4). E'la terza di una famiglia di 5 persone in cui solo la mamma lavora. In classe si impegna a fondo ed é sempre puntuale. Ha spesso la malaria.

24) Annie Chirwa: (11 years).  She is aspiring to become an electrical engineer. She stays with mother only who only does casual jobsr like cleaning people’s houses and washing to earn a living for a family of 6. It is said the father run away to an unknown place, leaving the family behind.

24) Annie Chirwa: (11 anni). Vorrebbe diventare un ingegnere elettronico. Per il momento vive con la mamma che fa solamente lavori saltuari come donna di servizio e con il ricavato mantiene una famiglia di 6 persone. Si dice che il padre sia scappato non si sa per dove, abbandonando l'intera famiglia.

25) Ruben Msyali: (13 years old; standard 7).  He has all the future open before him but the big challenge is that the single mother taking care of the family cannot manage to give all the 7 children proper care, mainly when it comes to education.

25) Ruben Msyali (13 anni, standard 7). Ha tutto il futuro davanti, ma la piú grossa sfida é che la mamma non riesce a mantenere in modo appropriato i suoi 7 figli, specie per quanto riguarda l'istruzione.

26) Cathy: (12 years old). From a family of 7 completely dependend on their grandmother who sells groundnuts on a vey small scale.

26) Cathy (12 anni). Viene da una famiglia di 7 persone che dipendono completamente dalla nonna che vende noccioline su piccola scala.

27) Vicor Manda: (11 years old; standard 6). He lives with both parents. The father works at a small shop and with the meager salary he gets there is not enough support for  their extended family. At school he works pretty well.

27) Victor Manda: (11 anni; standard 6). Vive con entrambi i genitori. Il padre lavora in un negozietto, ma il suo misero stipendio non é abbastanza per mantenere la famiglia che é molto estesa. Victor é un bravo studente.

28) Junior Mpasa: (10 years old; standard 4).  He lives with both parents. He has a very big problem with asthma and the parents are failing to do anything. As a consequence, he misses a lot of lessons at school and he is always behind. 

28) Junior Mpasa: (10 anni; standard 4). Vive con entrambi i genitori. Ha un grossissimo problema con l'asma e i genitori non possono fare nulla per aiutarlo. Di conseguenza salta molti giorni di scuola ed é rimane sempre indietro.

29) Watson Msuka: (7 years old).  He cannot tell anything of his background, Now  he stays with his grandmother. He is playful but has a rare leadership quality.

29) Watson Msuka: (7 anni). Non sa niente del suo passato. Ora vive con la nonna. E' molto giocherellone ma ha delle rare doti di leader.

30) Tony Magombo: (8 years old; standard 3).  He stays with his grandfather because both parents abandoned him. Dad went to an unknown place, mum to South Africa without a word. He is one of the children in which you can see potential.

30) Tony Magombo: (8 anni; standard 3). Vive con il nonno perché entrambi i genitori lo hanno abbandonato. Il padre é andato chissá dove; la madre in Sud Africa, cosi senza dire una parola. E' uno dei bambini in cui si possono vedere delle potenzialitá.
