September passed by very fast. During the first days we have managed to send the children back to their respective schools. They are now getting used to boarding school life again and no more complaints are coming. Moreover, our relationship with both schools has progressed even further.
Settembre è passato molto in fretta. Nei primi giorni di questo mese i bambini sono tornati alle loro rispettive scuole. Si sono ora riabituati ai ritmi scolastici e non si lamentano di nulla. Inoltre la nostra relazione con le scuole è progredita ulteriormente.
Shelter
With the introduction of new style of teaching and learning we are achieving a lot and Gresham has discovered that they was missing a lot. They are trying to make learning fun so that the children will be longing for more. This is also helping the children to notice the difference between the schools they attend during the morning and the shelter. One of the most important thing is that at the shelter they are trying to teach some of their normal syllabus in advance so that when the children are learning the same at their schools it looks like they are revising. This also helps to improve the reputation of our shelter in the community.
L' introduzione di un nuovo metodo di insegnamento sta portando i suoi frutti e Gresham ha realizzato che fino ad ora avrebbero potuto fare molto di più. Al momento stanno provando a rendere l' apprendimento un momento di piacere così che i bambini siano portati ad imparare ogni giorno di più. Questo è anche d' aiuto per far notare loro la differenza tra le scuole che frequentano la mattina e lo shelter. Allo shelter stanno anche provando ad insegnare i vari capitoli del libro prima che ciò venga fatto a scuola, così che i bambini già conoscono l'argomento quando lo sentono dai loro insegnanti regolamentari. Questo aiuta anche a migliorare la reputazione dello shelter all' interno della comunità.
Wukani
As usual the school fights for excellence. Every time one visits the school, the teachers are ready to update on the progress of the children in a very objective way. Even the children are okay despite the fact that while at Wukani they interact only with children coming from 'wealthy' families. For a child at their age this can be quite confronting, but they are taking this positively and are well aware they are there to learn for the future. Academically they are all doing well although they have just begun. Ramos is the one who is showing the most seriousness at the moment. Joyce and Witness are at their normal standard. We will wait until their mid term test to confirm this, but their weekly assessments are satisfying.
Come sempre questa scuola aspira al meglio. Ogni volta che qualcuno va a visitare i bambini, gli insegnanti sono disponibili a parlare del loro rendimento in modo del tutto obiettivo. Anche i bambini stanno bene, nonostante il fatto che la maggior parte dei loro compagni proviene da realtà economiche e familiari molto diverse dalla loro. Comunque loro non si fanno influenzare da ciò perché sanno che stanno a Wukani per costruirsi un futuro migliore. Dal punto di vista accademico tutto procede nel migliore dei modi. Ramos è quello che sembra aver iniziato con il maggior impegno, ma anche Witness e Joyce vanno bene. Aspetteremo i test di metà trimestre per vedere come vanno le cose, ma fino ad ora il loro rendimento è ottimo.
Bandawe
What Gresham defines 'our Sister school' is still trying to keep to standard despite the economical difficulties they are going through. The budget the sent for approval to the government is below the required standard minimum and still they expect that only ¾ or half of the proposed amount will be approved. Despite this all that the children are being helped to the maximum. Malita is feeling more at home at Bandawe than at home and Gresham confirmed that when she is at school and with friends she is very happy. However, he also informed us that she became bossy: once she wants a thing that has to be done her way and with this luck of proper communication it is hard for him to fight this attitude back. She behaves the same also with her school mates. The teachers think she is now discovering herself, but on the other hand Gresham thinks this might be the secondary effect of the medicine she is taking. This topic will be on the agenda next time they go for a medical check up. Academically she is progressing very well and she has a very good memory.
Quella che Gresham definisce come 'la nostra scuola sorella' sta ancora cercando di fare del suo meglio per mantenere gli standard previsti, nonostante tutte le difficoltà sul suo cammino. Bandawe ha richiesto al governo un budget che è ben al di sotto del minimo necessario, ma nonostante ciò si aspettano che solamente tre quarti o metà della somma richiesta verrà approvata. Ciò non impedisce loro di prendersi cura degli studenti nel migliore dei modi. Malita si sente più a casa a Bandawe che non a scuola e Gresham ha visto con i suoi occhi quanto sia felice ora. Comunque ci ha anche informato che è diventata piuttosto prepotente: quando vuole una cosa questa deve essere fatta a modo suo e, vista la difficoltà di comunicazione, Gresham non riesce ad opporre alcuna resistenza a ciò. Ne ha parlato con gli insegnanti che pensano sia solo una fase di crescita, ma ha intenzione di parlare a fondo dell' argomento al prossimo controllo medico. Questo potrebbe infatti essere un effetto collaterale delle medicine che Malita sta prendendo. Dal punto di vista accademico Malita sta andando molto bene e dimostra di avere un'ottima memoria.
Gresham
'Personally all is well with me and the family. Having Tawonga and Mum by my side things are so much the better although its another task on its own for you have to plan your time well so that you spend some enough time with them and making sure that they are cared for.
We are appreciating the effort you are showing towards this project and the daily guidance although remote but very helpful and encouraging. And to all donors and friends for everything put together its thanks and keep it going, one good turn deserves another.'
'Dal punto di vista personale tutto procede nel migliore dei modi anche con la mia famiglia. Avere affianco Tawonga e sua mamma è un sollievo anche se ora devo organizzare la mia giornata in modo diverso, così da avere tempo da trascorrere con loro.
