This month Marajowi started a new adventure
by supporting 4 more kids: Benjamin, Rhoda, Jeritah and Gift. All the children
were called together with their respective parents/guardians to be informed
that they had been selected for sponsor by Marajowi. Katie was present as well
and was asked to wear her school uniform. This, according to Malawian
mentality, is a symbol of her changed status after Marajowi started to support
her. All the guardians had the same words, sent a huge thank to the donors and
mentioned that they are sure they world has now changed for them. We hope we
will be able to meet their expectations!
Frighton started by laying what he called
‘a good foundation in the education of these children’. This means that he
bought for them an umbrella, an essential item during the rainy season, and
school uniforms. Uniforms are also extremely important and compulsory in
Malawian school for each child disregarding their social status. This is the
reason why buying an uniform is one of the first steps to take when supporting
a child. Very often their parents or guardians cannot afford them, but this
contributes to absenteeism from school and as a consequence poor performance in
the class and low standards of education. The uniforms bought were tailor made
with very good material (stiff wool) and are supposed to last for up to 4
years. Enough washing soap was bought for them as well.

Questo mese Marajowi ha intrapreso una nuova avventura sponsorizzando 4 nuovi bambini: Benjamin, Rhoda, Jeritah e Gift. Freighton li ha fatti andare da lui tutti insieme, accompagnati dai loro genitori/tutori e ha invitato anche Katie. Katie è arrivata indossando l'uniforme scolastica perchè, secondo la mentalità malawiana, questo è un simbolo della sua nuova condizione sociale. Alla notizia che i bimbi sarebbero stati sponsorizzati da Marajowi tutti i genitori/tutori sono stati concordi nel dire che questa è una notizia che gli farà sicuramente cambiare la vita. Sono tutti molto grati agli sponsor. Speriamo di riuscire a soddisfare le loro aspettative!
La prima donazione che questi bimbi hanno ricevuto è stata mirata a 'dare delle buoni basi alla loro istruzione' come ha detto Freighton. Questo significa che tutti e 4 i bambini hanno ricevuto un ombrello, un oggetto essenziale durante la stagione delle piogge, ed una uniforme scolastica. Le uniformi sono molto importanti e sono obbligatorie per tutti gli studenti, indipendentemente dal loro stato sociale, nelle scuole malawiane. Questo è il motivo per cui molto spesso comprare una divisa è il primo passo necessario a migliorare la loro situazione. Molto spesso i genitori/tutori non hanno soldi sufficienti per acquistarle e questo si risolve in alti tassi di assenteismo a scuola, scarso rendimento e poca istruzione. Le divise comprate sono fatte di un materiale molto resistente che dovrebbe durare per circa 4 anni. Oltre alle divise e all'ombrello Freighton ha comprato anche del sapone.
