When we first met him Witness Mphande was a very smart 9 year old boy. His parents passed away when he was 8 months old. His aunt took care of him since then. She has a small business selling corn at the market in attempt to sustain a family of 12 people. Witness was the youngest one and for this reason he got only the left overs, which often meant living in extremely poor conditions. He was constantly hungry, since he hardly got anything to eat. When even younger he had to catch fishes from the lake with his own hands to get some food. Despite all this he was always smiling and caring for the others. Thanks to your help, Witness has been attending the Wukani Education Facility for the last 4 years. He still is a very sweet, caring and smiling boy, but is not longer hungry, he has clothes to wear and all his family is proud of him. He is now attending Standard 4 which is the one before last year of primary education and dreams to have the possibility to go to the secondary school too.
Quando lo abbiamo incontrato la prima volta Witness Mphande era un bimbo molto intelligente di 9 anni, orfano dall'etá di 8 mesi. Sua zia si prendeva cura di lui e dell’intera famiglia costituita da 12 persone vendendo mais al mercato di Nkhata Bay. Witness era il più piccolo di tutti i fratelli e per questo riceveva solamente le briciole, conducendo un’esistenza di povertà estrema, sempre affamato, poiché non aveva quasi mai niente da mangiare. Quando era ancora più piccolo doveva pescare i pesci dal lago con le sue mani per sfamarsi. Nonostante tutto ciò era sempre sorridente e pieno di attenzioni verso i bimbi più piccoli. Grazie ai vostri contributi, negli ultimi 4 anni Witness ha frequentato la Wukani Education Facility. É ancora un ragazzo molto dolce, altruista e sorridente, ma non é piú affamato, ha di che vestirsi ed é stimato da tutta la sua famiglia. Al momento frequenta lo Standard 4, il corrispondente della nostra quarta elementare, e sogna di riuscire a frequentare anche le scuole superiori.
The best thing for Witness was to start attending a boarding school where he can receive not only proper education but also food and accommodation. At the Wukani Education Facility he got basic primary education, good teachers and classes in English too. Moreover the school iwa located approximately 50km north of Nkhata Bay and thus allows him to keep in touch with his family and community.
La cosa migliore per Witness è stata cominciare a frequentare una scuola dove ricevere non solo una buona istruzione, ma anche vitto e alloggio. La Wukani Education Facility gli ha garantito una buona istruzione di base, dei buoni insegnanti insegnanti e la possibilità di studiare l’inglese. Inoltre, visto che la scuola si trovava a circa 50km a nord di Nkhata Bay, Witness é rimasto in contatto con la sua comunità e la sua famiglia.
