Katie's family is the first one Frighton visited. He was welcomed by her brother and her grandmother, but soon afterwards the rest of the family members arrived. Katie was not there since she had gone to take some water by the fountain.

Once back Katie washed the plates, took a broom and swept the surroundings. Frighton noticed that
her personal hygiene was fine, but the object donated were in bad state. The reason for this is that Katie's grandmother is old and does not encourage her grandchild to keep her belongings well. In the same way she does not push her to go to school, but rather have her some errands done.
Una volta tornata Katie ha lavato i piatti, ha preso una scopa e ha spazzato l'area attorno alla casa. Frighton ha notato che Katie era pulita, ma gli oggetti a lei donati non erano in stato ottimale. La ragione di ciò è che la nonna è piuttosto vecchia e non incoraggia la nipote a prendersi cura delle sue cose. Nello stesso modo non la incoraggia nemmeno ad andare a scuola, al contrario le chiede spesso di fare commissioni proprio in orario scolastico.
It is for this reason that Frighton thinks that moving to Wukani is a great improvement for Katie. As a matter of fact we see her smiling a lot since she moved there.
Sono queste le ragioni per cui Frighton pensa che frequentare Wukani sia un cambiamento positivo nella vita di Katie. In realtà da quando sta nella nuova scuola, le foto che ci arrivano sono tutte di una Katie molto sorridente.
