With the help of some young men he helped earlier in his life, Frighton managed to put together a nice presentation on Deborah, Katie, Rhoda, Jeritah, Benjamin and Gift.
The main purpose was to introduce the children to all the people present, especially to the village heads, so that they can know them and understand how Marajowi has influenced their lives. He also explained that in his role, he is supported by Clement, who supervises Katie and Gift when they are at Wukani Education Facility.
Grazie all'aiuto di alcuni ragazzi che ha aiutato alcuni anni fa, Frigthon è riuscito a mettere insieme una interessante presentazione su Deborah, Katie, Rhoda, Jeritah, Benjamin e Gift.
Lo scopo principale di ciò era di presentare i bambini alla comunità in cui vivono, specie ai capi villagio, così che tutti potessero capire come Marajowi ha influenzato la loro vita. Frighton ha anche spiegato che nel suo ruole è affiancato da Clement, che si occupa di Gift e Katie quando sono alla Wukani Education Facility.
He has explained what Marajowi has done for children, namely: provide them what they lack to have a happy social life (e.g. clothes, shoes, soap, sleeping items etc), make sure they have a healthy life (e.g. providing food), make sure they can go to school (e.g. providing school uniforms and materials), make them feel important since someone far away is thinking of them.
Frighton ha spiegato quello che Marajowi ha fatto per i bambini ed in particolare: ha dato loro ciò di cui avevano bisogno per integrarsi nella società (es. vestiti, scarpe, sapone e il necessario per la notte); si è fatto carico di procurar loro del cibo (il che contribuisce alla loro salute) e ha comprato le uniformi ed il materiale scolastico. Tutto ciò ha anche contribuito al fatto che i bambini non si sentono soli perchè sanno che c'è qualcuno che li pensa.
He also explained what Marajowi expects in return, that is:
- donations are well kept;
- the parents (or guardians) encourage the children to go to school;
- the parents (or guardians) bring them up with love for them to be happy;
- the parents (or guardians) make sure the children are healthy and promote good behaviour.
Ha anche spiegato quello che Marajowi si aspetta in cambio:
- che gli oggetti donati siano tenuti ben tenuti;
- che i genitori (o chi ne fa le veci) incoraggino i bambini ad andare a scuola;
- che i genitori (o chi ne fa le veci) crescano i bambini con amore in modo da farli essere felici;
- che i genitori (o chi ne fa le veci) si assicurano che i bambini siano in salute e si comportino bene.
Apparently these points were essential for everyone to really understand the role of Marajowi and also contributed effectively in decision making.
In general it was observed that some of the donated items are shared among the members of the family which is good but up to a certain extent. For example, it is fine to share porridge or tea with the all family, but a school uniform should be considered a totally personal item. In the same way, an umbrella can be used by the all family, but not be taken from the kid when he/she has to go to school. Also sleeping materials can be shared, but not taken away from the children even if they still wet the beds at night. Parents (or guardians) should encourage the children in these situations and find a way to protect the mattress (for example by covering it with plastic).
At the end of the day this was considered to be a very useful meeting. In particular the following conclusions were made and decisions taken:
1) the criteria Marajowi is using to select the children is a very fair one;
2) the parents (or guardians) will be taking a more active role in the life of the children to encourage them in the right direction and make sure they will exploit the chance they are being given;
3) the village heads will take a more prominent role in checking the life of the selected children and advising their families when needed.
A quanto pare questi punti sono stati essenziali perchè tutti capissero quale è il vero ruolo di Marajowi e anche per aiutare ognuno a prendere le sue decisioni.
In genere, Frighton ha visto che alcuni degli oggetti donati sono condivisi con gli altri membri dei nucleo familiare. Questo non è problema, ma certamente ci sono dei limiti. Per esempio va benissimo condividere il porridge o il tè con gli altri, ma l'uniforme scolastica è un oggetto strettamente personale. Va bene se altre persone usano l'ombrello, ma non proprio quando i bambini devono uscire per andare a scuola. Il materasso e le coperte possono essere condivise ma non devono essere tolte ai bambini, neanche se questi li bagnano durante la notte. I genitori dovrebbero incoraggiarli e proteggere i materassi con dei teli di plastica.
Alla fine il meeting è stato molto utile per tutti e sono state prese le decisioni seguente:
1) i criteri che Marajowi usa per selezionare i bambini sono corretti e trasparenti;
2) i genitori (o chi ne fa le veci) avranno un ruolo più attivo nella vita dei figli e li supporteranno di più, in modo che riescano a sfruttare meglio l'occasione che gli è stata data;
3) i capi dei villaggi avranno un ruolo maggiore nel consigliare le famiglie coinvolte in caso di situazioni difficili da risolvere.
